Pre-Marital Counseling

No pre-marital counseling is required to be married by Rev. Phil.

However, here are the best resources he knows:
Remember, you are not only preparing for a wedding but for a marriage!

The Best Book

Here is the very best pre-marital book Rev. Phil knows of. It is called “Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts” or “Saving Your Second Marriage Before It Starts.” There is a workbook for each of you to fill out, on your own, and then discuss what you wrote. The idea is to make sure you are talking through all the important issues of life before your ceremony. After all, you’re not just planning a wedding but a marriage! There is one chapter, but only one chapter, on religion.
• Workbook for men
• Workbook for women

The publisher says: “Meeting the needs of a generation overwhelmed by divorce odds, relationship experts Les & Leslie Parrott share seven [or nine] key questions to help couples identify and overcome stumbling blocks to a building a healthy, lifelong marriage.”

How to get these books:

At the end of the free one hour consultation, you can purchase the set — Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts + workbook for men + workbook for women — at Rev. Phil’s cost. He makes no profit. He just wants you to get these.

For couples who are both marrying for the first time:

For couples where either one is marrying for the second time:

Premarital/Newly Married Finance Workshop

It is just one Saturday, 8:30am to 3:30pm, at Willow Creek Church in South Barrington (Algonquin & Barrington Roads, a few miles north of I-90/Northwest Tollway).

This workshop is designed to promote heathy, God-honoring financial practices that lead to financial freedom. Good stewardship provides peace of mind and contentment as you become a diligent earner, generous giver, wise saver and prudent consumer.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVE: To provide an environment where learning and practical steps toward financial freedom can take place as couples begin to:

• Have a biblical perspective of money and possessions
• Gain understanding of their financial journey
• Clarify values and goals
• Develop a spending plan

The cost is $35 per couple which includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

Both of these seminars are Christian-based. But you will find the experience comfortable, interesting and well worth your time.

The Best Weekend Conference

In that section, remove the bullet points for the days of week. So NOT have it for “Friday evening -- Oneness” and “Saturday morning -- Oneness”, etc.

Go to a Weekend to Remember conference.

It’s a Friday evening through Sunday afternoon at a nice resort or hotel in the Chicago area (and all over the country). Recent conferences have been at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort and Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale.

It is for engaged couples (like you) and married couples.

Yes, it is a Christian-based conference. I think you will still be comfortable, as long as you know that. It is a well run conference that is guaranteed to have laughter and learning. After all, every couple can improve on their communication skills.

Another Rave

Soon after the wedding: “How can we ever thank you? Our wedding was everything we hoped for and more! Our guests have commented time and time again how romantic and personal our ceremony was. It was unlike anything any of them experienced before.

“We are so happy to hear them say that the love Scott and I have for each other was apparent in your words and how they felt that it was truly a ceremony that was focused on our commitment to our marriage. We will never forget our special day and your impact on our view of love and marriage. Thank you for your attention and beautiful words.

2½ years later“By the way we are STILL receiving compliments on our wedding ceremony! I have recommended you numerous times.”
